At West End Nissan, we understand the times have changed; however, maintaining your vehicle during these times is more important than ever. Below we are proud to cover some of the steps you can take to protect your vehicle while it's sitting idle. If you do require some assistance, please schedule an online service appointment, and our trained technicians will be happy to help.
Start and Move it
The first step to taking care of your vehicle if it is sitting stationary is to start the engine approximately once every two weeks and if you have the opportunity to drive it around even if it is up and down your driveway. This gives the engine a chance to get up to operating temperature and allows the various fluids to circulate through. Once your engine is warm, this will help reduce the risk of your fluids, various gaskets and rubber parts going bad or drying out.
Fuel Stabilizer and Trickle Charger
If you plan not to drive your vehicle or have it sit for a long period of time, it is best to acquire a bottle of fuel stabilizer import into your gas tank. A fuel stabilizer in the tank helps your fuel from going bad because if you decide to start your engine with bad fuel, you may affect your fuel pump, lines and injectors. To protect your battery, make sure to attach a trickle charger; this will help it from depleting.
Car Cover
For some Automotive consumers, they're only able to park their vehicle outside. If this is the case, it is best to cover the vehicle with a waterproof car cover. This will help protect your paint, interior rubber and prevent water from collecting in spaces that could lead to rust.
Perform Services
If your vehicle is not being driven regularly, this is an excellent opportunity to perform a few services by doing them yourself. This will ensure that your vehicle is ready to go when it is time to get it back on the road. You can change out your cabin filter, engine filter, or even your oil.
Clean it Up
if your car is sitting, this is a great chance to give it a thorough cleaning. You have the opportunity to scrub down the exterior and interior of your vehicle. You can also apply a layer of Wax or a ceramic coating. This will leave your vehicle looking shiny and ready to drive once it's time. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
